Fuzzy Logic Co-Founded Trio Electrik-Pô Releases New Album 'WAKE UP'

15 November 2023

Electrik-Pô, the Indo-French trio of Arfaaz Kagalwala (aka Fuzzy Logic), multi-instrumentalist and Free Monkey Records-founder Florent Silve and trumpeteer Martin Saccady, recently released their most elaborate release with the 8-track album 'WAKE UP'.

True to the trio's formative idea of mixing electronic music with the acoustic nature of jazz, trumpet melodies over piano arpeggios and brush-on-drums grooves are supplemented by atonal noises and samples – as introduced by the opener '3 FOR EPO' or highlighted by a bed of chirping birds that provides the ambience for 'OPTIONS B'. Timbral dynamics become just as important as melodic, harmonic or rhythmic movement. Elsewhere, the trio even borrows syntaxes from other genres to include in their European blend of jazz with the sample-heavy vocal number 'QU'EST-CE QUE L'ON VEUT VIVRE' featuring trap-like drums.

Inspired by Electrik-Pô's 7-city India tour in 2022 which saw them perform across Pondicherry, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Lucknow, Gurgaon, Chennai and Hyderabad, the album also brings in local flavours in the form of tabla parts and rhythmic bols on 'WEST VOICES', which features prominent Indian singer Jasleen Aulakh. Most notably, the album's standout number 'EPROPERCUT' brings all these influences together as a recording of an argument with a taxi driver musically punctuates electronic drums, percussion, tabla, electric pianos and trumpet lines for a comical and thrilling melange that exudes infectious fun and storytelling to make the most of all the colours that Elektrik-Pô commands.
