Exclusive First Listen: Komorebi Continues The Journey Of Kiane With New Single 'Watch Out'

9 August 2023

Tarana Marwah aka Komorebi's upcoming album 'The Fall' is not just the biggest release for the New Delhi artist but might also be one of the biggest releases to have come out of the alternative music space of India. With tech-led extravagant music videos, a 30-page comic book and music packaged as a concept album that saw her collaborating with nearly 100 creatives, the singer, producer, composer and film scorer assembles the story of Kiane, an extraterrestrial character travelling through worlds in search of her place in it and to escape from her home.

While the overarching theme of the multimedia project might be fictitious, its music and messaging remain rooted in relatable reality, working just as much as standalone pieces of music as much as part of the wider storyline. While the previously released 'I Grew Up' was about the challenges of growing up and the decisions of holding on and moving on that come with it, the second single 'Watch Out' is about letting go of toxic attachments.

Komorebi shares the single exclusively via Wild City ahead of its wider release on August 18.

A gentle number led by the New Delhi artist's reassuring vocals atop plucked acoustic guitars is washed in clever harmonies of vocals, synth strings, ethereal pads and arpeggios that melt together into one engulfing wall of sound. Featuring contributions from Blackstratblues' Warren Mendonsa, Dhruv Visvanath and Easy Wanderlings, the song's natural lilt gets the body swaying even without the use of percussion while the concluding flute lines and chimes reinforce the cinematic atmosphere of the work.

In the context of the coming-of-age story of Kiane, a character that was first introduced to us by Komorebi's 2017 album 'Soliloquy', the song serves as the chapter where the travelling protagonist comes across the story's antagonist Luna-Tick, who presents themselves as a friend at first to Kiane – a story that will be detailed through the yet to be released music video for the single.

Listen to 'Watch Out' below ahead of its wider release and follow Komorebi for more information.
