Sandunes Announces New Album With Single 'The Surge' (ft. Ramya Pothuri)

Mumbai composer-producer Sanaya Ardeshir aka Sandunes just released the track 'The Surge', which features her frequent collaborator and singer-songwriter Ramya Pothuri. The release comes as the first single from Sandunes' upcoming 13-track album 'The Ground Beneath Her Feat', which releases on November 17 via the label Tru Thoughts.

One of the leading figures of India's electronica talent for almost a decade now, Sandunes' characteristically intricate and rich tapestry of carefully designed sounds blooms fully on the single. More importantly, it is supplemented with clarinet and string lines to provide a new aspect to her musicality that's worth looking forward to with the upcoming album. Around Pothuri's contemporary lyricism about the unease and fear associated with a big change, eccentric fragments of morphed organic textures add a jovial edge atop the foundation of steady drums and plucked bass syncopating against it. The sweetest elements of the track however come through the interluding melodic runs on woodwinds, vocal harmonies and dramatic strings.

'The Surge' drops around the time both Sanaya and Ramya have dealt with gradually shifting their lives to L.A. over and since the pandemic, which both drew upon while creating the track over a week of isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic's devastating second wave.
