Rafiki Gives Retro Sounds A Modern Edge On 'The Source'

29 March 2023

Mumbai-based producer, DJ and head-honcho of KRUNK, Sohail Arora as his moniker Rafiki doesn't just offer his first vinyl release but also makes a complete stylistic exception with the EP 'The Source'.

Away from his usual fare of frenzied breaks, Rafiki reaches out to the jubilant constant thump of 90s house music and analog synthetic drums that overtly harken to the retro. Released over the Portuguese label Welt Discos, the 4-track release gives a direct reference to the Europe and British strand of dance music with opener 'A London Sound' as well as the title track, and provides spaciously engulfing echoes of vocal samples on 'Where Is The Honey?', before giving a slight nudge to acid house on the closer 'Varied Sciences'.
