SYEYL Mixes Electronica & RAV Vast For Meditative Downtempo EP 'Dawn Chorus'

17 February 2023

New Delhi electronica artist SYEYL recently released his debut EP 'Dawn Chorus', working with RAV Vast, instruments largely used for meditation, to combine hypnotic ambient textures with a rich thump of bass-heavy drums.

While not the first to mix ambient with dance music, SYEYL stays away from cliches as he packs the EP's 5 compositions with harmonic information intricate enough to make one remind of the electronica works by the likes of Four Tet or Floating Points, further associated by the heavy use of placating plucked sounds. Subtle but dense textures glide across each other, creating minor syncopation over stable foundational grooves – best exemplified in companion pieces 'Lotus' and 'Safe and Sound', with the latter achieving an uplifting quality with its choral vocal-like layers.
