BC Azad Releases Debut Album 'Naya Hindustan'

10 October 2022

Member of Kolkata's collective Park Circus and now a Mumbai-based alternative hip-hop artist, Arijit Sett aka BC Azad just dropped his debut album 'Naya Hindustan' via Aftershock Records.

The 11-track release packs all the staples of desi-hip-hop with speech samples and verses by the artist on themes like the declining socio-politic of the country, constant opposition to newer expressions ('Azadi Haraam') and Instagram-fuelled narcissism on 'THOTS N PRYRS'. The quality that sets it all apart, besides BC Azad's jumping between Hindi, English and Bangla, is the rapper's biting tone which makes its mark within the first two numbers 'Naya Hindustan' and 'Azadi Haraam'.

A changing of producers lends colourful contrast through the album with frequent collaborator National Animal laying the majority of the beats and the most unique: the previously-released Bangla-pop hip-hop ditty 'Prithibi Chai', which features Kolkata's Plastic Parvati, and the gritty acid-tinged 'Bakchod'. The elusive Excise Dept's distorted outro on 'Terms N Conditions' and the trap setting by Kikomba Sound and National Animal on 'Boomnation' provide the other high points of the album.
