Kavya Offers Kaleidoscopic Delivery On ‘Know Me Better’

As hinted with the previously released singles 'Lay Your Head Down' and 'Affection', on her new EP ‘Know Me Better’, Delhi-based singer-songwriter KAVYA goes for a fuller sound of textural skittering beats and shimmering electro-pop--courtesy of producer Anhad Khanna (of Sublime Sound and Anhad + Tanner). The 4-track release invites listeners to the dance floor, while doubling down on her signature vulnerable songwriting.

Throughout the four tracks, she grounds her otherwise more abstract songwriting with specificities and is more forthcoming in her admissions about moving on: “Holding onto the past isn’t a way to live / No more, I must be done with it”, and prioritizing self-preservation: “I don’t wanna talk anymore, walk anymore / Share my stories with no one”. The expansive lead single ‘Affection’ and glitchy guitar-led closer ‘Cold’ do well to widen her range, though the middle section is lacking their propulsive feel.

Ultimately, it’s the way she seamlessly switches up her delivery style, which ping pongs from a breathy pleading whisper to liquid falsetto and a register dripping with steely confidence, sometimes all in a single track, that lends added credibility to the tracks’ storytelling at moments when the twists and turns in the production and arrangement appear out of left-field.
