Rachel Singh Offers Ethereal Nostalgia With Her Single 'Owl's Eye'

4 August 2021

Mumbai singer-songwriter and visual artist Rachel Singh recently released her single 'Owl's Eye', tributing her father Raju Singh and grandfather Charanjit Singh, the legendary Indian acid house pioneer, with its music video.

The song doesn't hold back its emotiveness, bursting forth with a hair-raising Shehnai melody, played by Yogesh Mathuradas More, that interludes Rachel's poignant and abstract lyrics which, in conjunction with the video, examines the onerousness of past memories and legacies but with a light gentleness. While the lyrical content remains minimal, the production and arrangement, facilitated by Rachel's brother and musician Joshua Singh with the help of guitarists Amandeep Singh and Kabir Hiranandani, erupts gradually to a cinematically large combination of gentle melodic layers that keeps on escalating and receding in intensity in varying ways till the very end.
