Listen: Shepherd Releases Debut LP ‘Stereolithic Riffalocalypse’

9 March 2015

Sludge band Shepherd has officially put up its long awaited debut LP ‘Stereolithic Riffalocalypse’ for sale on Bandcamp after a packed launch party at The Humming Tree in Bangalore last Friday.

We’re aware that ‘Stereolithic Riffalocalypse’ doesn’t quite bear much resemblance with the rest of the music we cover on Wild City these days, but we love it anyway. The album has been available to listen online for a while now and we’ve been lapping up its abrasive riffs, gravelly, often drawling vocals and cloudy mood. Listening to the album’s skillfully executed, enveloping walls of noise sort of felt like were immersing our arms into a vat of thick, viscous tar (in a good way, if that makes any sense).

‘Stereolithic Riffalocalypse’ is more than just a fun title to say out loud. Comfortingly old school and fresh at the same time, the album is cohesively structured and feels right beginning to end. We’re not the first one’s to think so either – fans have been flocking to their Shepherd all of last month with the first (sizable) batch of pre-orders sent out today.

Band members include Abhishek Michael on bass, Namit Chauhan on guitar and Deepak Raghu, who plays drums. All three members contribute to the vocals, according to their Facebook page. You can listen to ‘Stereolithic Riffalocalypse’ below in its entirely and support Shepherd by buying it here on Bandcamp.
