The Indo-German Urban Mela Heads To New Delhi

23 October 2012

The Indo-Germa Urban Mela has been busy over the last seven months travelling around India, making stops in Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. This weekend it opens in Delhi and from a glance at the programming, we anticipate it to be the best so far in terms of its solid yet diverse series of events and performances.

Although the pavilions are all sponsored by German corporate powerhouses, dig a little deeper and you’ll find some interesting things inside. For the science geeks there is plenty and for the environmentally conscious, there is a lot of food for thought too. We’re quite intrigued by the science slams where six experts will try and condense their knowledge into short and comical skits.

Highlights from the cultural programme include a specially crafted performance on the opening night by two of our favourite electronic acts, BLOT! and Jahcoozi. Always one step ahead, BLOT! never disappoint. Coupled with the dynamic and immense force of Jahcoozi, this promises to be a lush, fierce and diverse show.

PIX (photography publication that comes out every quarter) also have a strong presence, with daily exhibitions (running in partnership with a German publication) called Witness to Change.

Other notable cultural events include Indian Ocean, Dualist Inquiry, Ayaan Ali Khan and of course The Ska Vengers' much anticipated album launch. We are also looking forward to getting our brass fix with Mardis Gras.BB, a guaranteed toe tapping and hip swinging affair.

Film screenings will also keep you occupied. Climate.Culture.Change is a series of feature length and short films, ‘The Age of Stupid’ being one of them – an absolutely compelling film that you simply MUST watch (watch trailer).
