Call For Volunteers: The Community Library Project & Wild City Are Seeking Guitar Teachers

In 2019, Wild City partnered with New Delhi’s The Community Library Project (TCLP), a low-cost people-led anti-caste initiative committed to building the movement for publicly owned accessible-for-all library systems, to conduct regular guitar classes and workshops for its younger members. Primarily in the 12-15 age group with the majority of them the first generation in their families to attend schools, the selected members experienced a connection with a musical instrument for the first time and found a fresher creative outlet and source of confidence through it.
“I had only ever seen a guitar in a movie and I really liked that I could finally hold one in haqeeqat (reality),” reflected one of the students while the other added: “It has always been my dream to play the guitar. I see people in the movies playing guitar. I want to become a musician and a singer. I really like guitar classes and it’s my khwahish (desire) to teach guitar like sir.”
After the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Wild City and TCLP are seeking to resume their partnership in 2023.
We are calling for musicians and music teachers who can volunteer their time to lead weekly guitar classes at TCLP’s Khirki Extension for a total of 12 sessions between the month of November 2023 - February 2024. At a minimum, the sessions will be in the form of an hour-long class with 7-8 students on a day and time set according to the convenience of the teacher and the TCLP staff.

The contribution of the music teacher will be supplemented by TCLP’s ongoing efforts in hosting other arts-related workshops, showcases and masterclasses, as well as the occasional event management opportunities by the likes of BFR Soundsystem and Magnetic Fields Festival.
