First Look: I7HVN & Sanoli Chowdhury Collaborate On 'Imaginary Love'

16 June 2023

Bangalore-based I7HVN (pronounced "Ishaan") who also founded the leftfield collective Šafar is set to release an 11-track album 'Youthful' in July via the prominent Indian electronic music label Qilla Records. Ahead of it, the producer and multi-media artist is dropping his collaboration with producer-songwriter-singer Sanoli Chowdhury entitled 'Imaginary Love'. The pair share the music video exclusively via Wild City before its wider release.

A contrast to I7HVN's usual fare of abstract textural distillations of trip-hop, IDM and breaks that permeate the rest of the album, 'Imaginary Love' keeps the feel of vocals (by Sanoli) and piano at the centre. However, with a little more discerning, it's clear that aside from Sanoli's cinematic lyricism and gentle delivery, the track's other musical protagonist is the assembly of echoing syllables, meticulously moulded reverberation and the space between pads and strings.

"I think for me the title of the song resonates really well with what I also felt about it while writing for the tune," says Sanoli. "Considering it is relatively a linear track as well, it was fun to explore the nuances of being in a static relationship. A lot of thoughts from which, then get derived from hopeful imagery and wishful thinking."

Watch the music video for 'Imaginary Love' below before it releases on June 19. For more information, follow I7HVN and Sanoli Chowdhury.
