Delhi-based young psy Offers Alternative Hip-Hop With 'SURREALIST MANIFESTO'

He is young psy on Spotify but babytwophones on Apple Music. The lack of easily available consolidated information on Adel James aka young psy almost makes him a cryptic artist though with a discography that goes back 3 years. The loosely organised online presence is concurrent with his laidback almost slacker delivery style.

While that delivery style has created an interesting combination with the psychedelic beats of his previous work, young psy's latest EP 'SURREALIST MANIFESTO' is where its rough edges make most sense. On the 7-track release, he collaborates with the soulful beats by Polish producer Johnny Kid, who found young psy via Discord. "I moved from a more calculated and strict psychedelic thing to a more loose and groovy chopped soul sample thing," says the Dubai born and bred artist. "'Surrealist Manifesto' was me just freestyling (punching in) over a beat every day for like 30 days."

The resultant work is reminiscent of Earl Sweatshirt or early Tyler, The Creator that's unique in this part of the world for both its lyrics and delivery.
