Shiva Soundsystem & Engine Earz Giveaway Free Music In Support Of Nirbhaya

15 November 2013

One of the main men behind East London music/arts/visual collective Shiva Soundsystem, Nerm is a London based DJ and broadcaster, always on the lookout for sounds both fresh and unique.

In early 2010 as part of his many projects he supervised the soundtrack for ‘Everywhere and Nowhere’, in which he commissioned Prashant Mistry of the Engine-Earz (who recently collaborated with Monica Dogra for the first episode of the Dewarists) to remix the song ‘Chalte Chalte’ from 1972 Bollywood classic ‘Pakeezah’.

This music was never released.

Fast forward to July 2013, and the significance of the song changed forever. Against the backdrop of increasing concerns for women’s safety in India, the internationally-acclaimed play Nirbhaya, was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The play began with a few lines from the song which prompted Nerm to release the track, ‘Chalte Chalte’ - remixed by Engine-Earz to help bring attention to the production and the campaign to get the play to India in early 2014.

That push on Kickstarter is now in its final few days.

“When I saw it in London before the cast headed to Edinburgh I was rocked to my core - it's one of the most poignant pieces of art I've ever seen. The play opened with lines from ‘Chalte Chalte’ and profoundly changed the way I now listen to the song. The emotions I felt are very well expressed by the Engine-Earz "Unheard Directors Cut" remix, which is why I insisted we release that version alongside the highly sought after Cinematic version.” - Nerm

As well as the two versions of ‘Chalte Chalte’ by Engine-Earz, Nerm and Shiva Soundsystem cohort D-Code have included their remix of ‘Phool Ka Taron Ka’, also made for the soundtrack to 'Everywhere and Nowhere' and a bonus version that’s never been heard before.

Shiva Soundsystem and Engine-Earz will both be performing at Magnetic Fields Festival in Rajasthan on 13-15 December.
