Peter Cat Recording Co. Are At Their Most Personal With New Single 'Suddenly'
27 June 2024
Prominent Indian indie group Peter Cat Recording Co. had announced their long-awaited follow-up album to 2019's 'Bismillah' with 'BETA', which they introduced through the single 'People Never Change' last month. The New Delhi-origin group has just put out 'Suddenly', the second single from the album alongside its music video.
Both the track and the music video show the band offering one of the most personal works in their discography with frontman Suryakant Sawhney penning an ode to his late father and a consoling letter to his mother. Lines like "She didn't know how to sign a cheque or even type // Her god is real and it guides her through her life so blind" are downright autobiographical and without the veil of metaphors or vagueness to be some of the most literal lyrics by the band.
The video too features Sawhney's mother and her reaction to hearing the song for the first time alongside the band dressed as sailors, a nod to Sawhney's father who was in the merchant navy until his passing when the singer-to-be was still a teenager.
