Indo-German Urban Mela Opens In Bangalore Today

The Indo-German Urban Mela opens in Bangalore today with a grand inauguration ceremony. It features 16 pavilions hosted by German organisations featuring a combination of technology, science, culture and entertainment. Over the next 10 days each pavilion is showcasing games, experiments, presentations and workshops that fall under the theme of sustainable urban development and how "we can improve life within our cities."

Alongside this is a cultural programme that includes a daily schedule of gigs, dance shows, flash mobs and concerts. The Urban Mela in Bangalore has a strong focus on events and talks for students with the Youth University, Science Slam and Poetry Slam all encouraging students to get involved while simultaneously exploring options for study and internships in Germany.

The Sounds of Silence is definitely one to watch out for on 29 June with musician Prakash Sontakke bringing the famous German silent classic to life with a specially composed original score. Also not to be missed is internationally renown slam artist Lars Ruppel who will be teaching the art of poetry slamming and encouraging people to compete.

The Beergarden is another tempting feature of the Urban Mela with traditional German food including bratwurst, pretzels and of course German beer!

This is the second leg of a 5 city tour around India for the Indo-German Urban Mela. Over the course of the next 7 months the Mela which will touch down at Chennai, Delhi and Pune. More info here
