Universal Music India Launch Dedicated Electronic Music Label

9 March 2012

Universal Music India recently announced the launch of ContraBass, a dedicated Indian major electronic music label.

Reports suggest that the sub-label which aims to showcase both international and local electronic acts will be utilising deals to release albums from Black Hole Recordings as well as some of the world's biggest international electronic music labels.

“Electronic Music is in my opinion the sound of the youth of the future India. To enhance that in actuality Universal Music India has just launched ‘ContraBass Records’ a sub-label that is designed specifically to launch electronic music from artists the world over including India. ContraBass records also has inbuilt within it a live business wherein it will bring artists from all over to perform in selected venues in the greater India region. Needless to say ContraBass records will become the lead vehicle in partnering all the major festivals both here in India and around the region.” - Universal Music India and SAARC MD Devraj Sanyal

The first international release on ContraBass Records is set to be DJ Ferry Corsten’s new album ‘WKND'. Lost Stories, Akshai Sarin and AFM will release the labels first few domestic releases and will be put alongside artists such as Chase & Status and Sub Focus as the year progresses.
