Indie 101: A Guide To The Independent Music Industry In India

22 August 2017

Indie 101 is a book written by music entrepreneur Ritnika Nayan. Her aim with the book is to make the independent music space in India an easier place to understand.

Having worked in the music industry for 17 years across India and the US, Indie 101 is her attempt to ensure that up-and-coming artists in India have a simple way of navigate the industry. Featuring interviews with prominent industry personalities like singers Monica Dogra, Vishal Dadlani as well as record labels like Universal and Times Music, it also feature’s Wild City’s Munbir Chawla and Ruhi Batra.

“There is nothing out there that explains how to navigate the music business in India. No real schools that teach the ins-and-outs of the music business and no books. Artists have no place to get specific information whether it be on how to read contracts or how to put together a press kit. Over the years, I have had artists asking me the same questions and there seemed to be no place they could get this information pertaining to the Indian market.”- Ritnika Nayan

The book will be launched on 24 August in New Delhi at Raasta in Green Park with appearances from Advaita, Half Step Down + Rohan Kale, Frisky Pints, Indigo Children and The Circus.
