Listen: 'Veils' By ramsha

20 February 2017

Ramsha Shakeel is one of the more interesting artists to come out of the Pakistani music scene. Now Toronto-based she’s predominantly known for her ambient and drone sounds, an amalgamation of the two that she dovetails beautifully on her ‘VEILS’ EP.

Shakeel first popped up on our radar, following the release of her 2015 ‘Daastanemarg’ EP. Since then she has also taken part in the two-week long Soundcamp residency in Karachi, initiated by production duo Gebrüder Teichmann which culminated in the release of Karachi Files.

Shakeel’s sound itself has grown from that first EP. The sustained tonal undulations of drone aren’t easily accommodated by listeners; most find it disturbing and monotonous, but ‘VEILS’ makes it beautiful. There are snippets of acerbic sounds, bass that overpowers everything else and fractured noise that comes together seamlessly.

Follow ramsha here and check out her mix for Wild City. You can listen to ‘VEILS’ below via Bandcamp.
