First Listen: 'Love Machine' by Dirty Jays

14 February 2017

The Dirty Jays have just released a brand new single, 'Love Machine', from their upcoming EP, 'People of the Night'. The track features Tejas Menon on vocals and is a throwback to the 80s synth-pop scene.

A live electronica duo, the Dirty Jays are based out of Mumbai and comprise of producer/songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Stu (Dirty) and Jay (Jay). Since forming in 2015, the duo have already performed as part of Nicholson's full band at various festivals including the National Centre for Performing Arts, Magnetic Fields and NH7 Weekender. They are also full-time studio producers at Cotton Press Studios.

This year seems like the Dirty Jays' breakout year, though. ‘Love Machine’ is a synth-heavy, pop-laden tune with a catchy walking bass line. The falsetto of Tejas Menon only adds to this - reminiscent of peak George Michael with all the gusto of early Queen. The vocals never distract you from the energetic, cheerful instrumentals, rather adding to the scenery of the piece with aplomb.

"The sound stems from our shared need to keep things live as well as our love for electronic music, we were born and bred playing in bands, so if we're on stage we gotta be in the music. Otherwise you'd see it in our faces. The song 'Love Machine' was written when I had just been dumped and was wallowing, just generally not moving my ass, being a loser, and then along came this beautiful woman who saved me. Love saved me. She was my love machine." - Stu (Dirty)

'People of the Night' is due out later this year. You can follow the Dirty Jays on their Facebook page here and listen to more of their songs on SoundCloud.
