Phosphenes Release Their First Nepali EP With The Dreamy 'Simit Yaad'

3 August 2023

Nepali rock trio Phosphenes just shared their latest release, the EP 'Simit Yaad' (translating to "limited memory"), over the popular streaming platforms. As the combo of Abhi Pokhrel, Prajwal Aryal and Aman Karna offers a body of work in their native language, the band moves away from its pristine arrangement and catchy melodies to assume a dreamier edge while retaining the energy of rock.

The folkier lyricism spreads its influence and gives a new feel to the band's usual assortment of shimmering guitars and subtle synth lines – most evident on 'Najar', where it is underpinned constantly by the gentleness of the acoustic guitar. A similarly gentle but set apart from all others on the 5-track release is the sparse and string-laden dramatic number 'Antya'.

On the opposite end of the spectrum with regards to intensity, 'Ma' demonstrates that the band's ability to write a rousing chorus intermittent with catchy hooks and the rhythmic drive of a band experienced in playing live is going nowhere.

Listen to 'Simit Yaad' below and follow Phosphenes for more.
