Jordan Johnson & Ditty Collaborate On New Single 'Alice & I'

5 June 2023

A relatively known name in India's indie music landscape for a decade, Mussoorie's Jordan Johnson went quiet on the release front for nearly 5 years before announcing his EP 'For Alice' last December with the single 'My Girl' alongside releasing a collaborative track with Mumbai producer chrms entitled 'LAIKA'. The indie-folk singer-songwriter continues to reveal pieces of the upcoming 5-track EP with his latest release 'Alice & I', which features the New Delhi-bred and erstwhile Goa-based artist Aditi Veena aka Ditty.

With a slight rasp to his voice over acoustic plucks and echoes of slide guitars, Jordan sings about slowing down and killing time. "My wife and I twiddled our thumbs, waiting for the next big thing to happen. It was in this place that I realised just how uncomfortable I was with doing nothing. I was restless in a place where I was meant to be getting rest," explains the artist about the inspiration behind the songwriting.

Initially, Ditty's voice joins in unison, adding a layer of comforting companionship to the languid number. However, the subtle moment of genius is the splitting of "we just need to" and "breathe darling" between the two performers on the last refrain – signalling the two distinct states of minds, one eager to do something and one assuring that doing nothing is enough, and how the one needs the latter's assurance.
