Gig Preview: Hip-Hop Homeland

19 April 2016

101India’s web series ‘Hip Hop Homeland’ premiered this year in February and takes an in-depth look at India’s burgeoning underground community.

After producing a number of made-for-web mini films that centre around the streets of Mumbai and the art emerging from it, ‘Hip Hop Homeland’ is finally ready to go live on 27 April, at antiSOCIAL in Khar, Mumbai with a special showcase of the finest hip-hop talent in the country.

The line-up for the event features upcoming rappers MC Mawali, MC Tod Fod, Mumbai’s Finest and Delhi’s Prabh Deep Sagar. Headlining the event is Mumbai-based Divine, who’s been making waves with anthemic singles like single ‘Mere Gully Me’ and ‘Jungli Sher’, along with Naezy - one of the most prominent politically conscious young artists in the country today.

“With the advent of digital services such as YouTube and SoundCloud, hip-hop is growing as a global movement. 101India attempts to show how kids in India are using hip-hop to give voice to a young, vibrant and socially conscious India. From the gullies of Mumbai to villages in the North-East, hip-hop artists are using the genre to speak directly to the world - telling them what's real and what's not and side-stepping the propaganda spewed by traditional media.” – 101India
