Gig Preview: Club Night ECHO Turns 1

19 April 2016

Echo is a club night dedicated to sound system culture that we began this time last year, in collaboration with BASSFoundation Root's main man Delhi Sultanate (Taru Dalmia) and Alter State (Sanil Sudan). We’re officially celebrating Echo’s first birthday this month, on 29 April with our three resident selectors taking charge of the decks.

We’ve had a lot of memorable moments at ECHO last year. The energy has always been right up there and we’ve been happy to see a healthy mix of enthusiastic regulars and curious newcomers attending.

Of course, some of the highlights came from the international acts that brought a taste of the UK’s legendary dubstep scene to Delhi’s lanes. One of DMZ's youngest and most talented signees COMPA delivered an absolute banger of a set as did SYSTEM music founder and boss V.I.V.E.K., whose set was one for the books.

The last year has also been very active for our resident selector Delhi Sultanate, who crowdfunded and hand built built one of India’s few legitimate Jamaican sound systems, which officially launched earlier this month at Champa Gali in New Delhi.

Come celebrate Echo’s first birthday with Alter State, Delhi Sultanate and Moniker on 29 April at antiSOCIAL in Hauz Khas, New Delhi. Expect to hear the freshest roots dubplates and cut-throat basslines, room shaking wubs and pure, no-nonsense dubstep.

We hope to see all our regulars there before Delhi’s summer lull hits, as well as anyone who’s curious to find out more. You can read our interview with Echo’s three resident selectors here.
