"BMR Announces First Winner; Opens Applications For Round 2"

31 March 2016

The BMR team (Border Movement, Musicboard Berlin, Ableton, Goethe-Institut, Wild City and Gebrüder Teichmann on the jury) have opened applications for round 2 of Berlin based residency program, and releaved the first selected participant.

It’s safe to say that everyone on the BMR jury was completely overwhelmed by the number of applications sent in for the two month bespoke residency program in Berlin. After careful deliberations, our set of judges picked Jaipur based Ujjwal Agarwal aka KʌLʌ to be the first artist to participate in BMR Berlin. The producer will spend two months in Berlin this summer learning from professionals who will mentor and guide him through the city and its music.

Border Movement got in touch with KʌLʌ, who had only this to say: “I feel like visiting a temple. It’s been years.”

BMR has also already opened applications for round 2 of the program. So don’t be disheartened if you weren’t selected the first time – there are many more opportunities coming your way and we suggest you apply every single time for a chance to get in.

Eligible countries for the Berlin program include India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal and the Maldives. The all expenses paid BMR program will be tailor made to suit each producers needs and include meets and collaborations with local artists, music production master classes, interaction with local labels and music businesses. Selected applicants will also get to perform gigs in the city.

Applications for the second BMR Berlin residency for a South Asian artist in Berlin are now open. Click here for the application form. The deadline for entries is 20 April 2016. Full details about how to apply and eligibility criteria can be found here.

BMR 2 will take place from 6 June– 6 August 2016. Follow Border Movement on Facebook for updates. Watch a short video on KʌLʌ below to know more about the artist.
