Easy Wanderlings Gradually Shift Style On EP 'Caught in a Parade'

7 October 2022

"If our initial releases were more on the folk and indie-pop side of things, this one is more towards modern soul and funk," says Sharad Rao, the guitarist of 8-piece band Easy Wanderlings about their just-released EP 'Caught in a Parade'.

Though the Pune group reiterates their aim to "wander" across the musical spheres and not get caught in genres, the 5-track release makes a stylistic shift within the first two opening numbers as the languid acoustic swing of the previously-released opener 'Enemy' gives in to the thumping woodwind, brass and choir-energised belts of the EP standout 'Center Of The Universe'. As the release shifts into languidity again with the Nikhil D'Souza-featuring dramatic ballad 'Mayflower', the shift in intensities begins to dictate the ebb and flow of the EP, which deals with themes like family, friends, loss, regret, navigating dating in the modern world and cancel culture.

Promoting the EP release, the band has been on an India-wide tour, having already played Chennai, Bangalore, Goa and Arunachal Pradesh. The band comes to Delhi this weekend on October 9 and finishes the tour in their hometown of Pune on October 30.
