Lowlit Announces BeatDesk Version 1.0

21 March 2016

Lowlit is a Delhi based record label, artist collective and multi-platform cultural curator which was initiated last year by Nikhil Kaul (Frame/Frame) and Vishnu PS (Soulspace) to provide a space for forward thinking Indian electronica to grow.

They recently announced the launch of a new property with Pepsi MTV Indies called BeatDesk – a platform to encourage conversation and collaborations between the left-off-center independent musicians and producers from India.

The first edition of BeatDesk is set to take place this week on 23 March at antiSOCIAL, Khar, Mumbai with registration beginning at 5pm. The event kicks off with a talk by Sanaya Ardeshir (Sandunes) on ‘Self-Management 101’, which will cover topics that include branding yourself as an artist, galvanizing a community, understanding creative entrepreneurship, intellectual property and more.

This will be followed by ‘Beatroulette’ – an exercise for attending producers to come up with a collaborative track with their peers, and ‘Mash!’, where producers will have to pick one randomly allotted sample into within 45 minutes. The two best tunes will be selected by a jury and the completed tracks will be sent to the famed Abbey Road Studios in London to be mastered by some of the best ears in the business.

But the event doesn’t end there. Post talk and workshops, the evening will feature performances by a great lineup featuring founders Frame/Frame and Soulspace along with Big City Harmonics and MALFNKTION.

BeatDest is definitely a step in the right direction for the young music collective and we strongly suggest young producers register and attend. Keep an eye on Lowlit’s Facebook page for updates.
