OX7GEN Releases ‘Recess’ EP & Starts India Tour

Following the release of his exceptional track ‘Paragon’ (which was released last week on Wild City here), Mumbai based producer, DJ and drummer OX7GEN has just dropped his fifth EP – ‘Recess’.

While Aditya Ashok doesn’t totally abandon the drum and bass aesthetic he’s known for, he has taken a much more experimental path with ‘Recess’ (comapred to his previous work), dabbling in electronica and playing with tempo.

The opening title track – we’ll be honest, left us cold. We’re not loving the funny sound on that bass, and while we appreciate the use of live chatty-crowd recordings (very Floating Points), it didn’t quite work in this instance.

That aside, the album really is quite solid. We’ve already gushed about his liquid bass number ‘Paragon’ when it was released last week and the rest of the album lives up to the hype with memorable tracks like ‘Ghost’ and the atmospheric and deliberately fuzzy ‘We Live In Shadows’. We’re 100% on board with the direction he’s taking, and enthusiastic to see how OX7GEN’s evolved sound translates live.
