Listen: Kush Arora Launches Experimental New Project ‘Only Now’

2 June 2015

Kush Arora is a San Francisco based drummer and producer of Indian origins who recently made public his new experimental project ‘Only Now’ via Record Label Records on FACT magazine.

Arora’s expansive musical career has seen him dabble in everything from hosting his own radio show and DJing at one of his own bass focussed club nights to working on sound design (for David Lynch, no less) and video games. His influences in the past have ranged from dub and garage to dancehall, with comparisons being made to the likes of Stereotyp, Muzlimgauze, The Bug and even Adrian Sherwood. The musician’s vast musical knowledge and diverse interests embody themselves in his latest offering.

He describes ‘Only Now’ as “…the land where cyberpunk aesthetics, underground african riddims, and spacious explorations into cinematic sound collide for intense and profound results.” It’s an unlikely marriage that only really makes sense when you play self-titled. Abrasive metallic noises and industrial aesthetics meet heated, pummelling African influenced percussion for a frenetic listen that’s as balanced and enjoyable as it is unique.

You can listen to the EP below in its entirety and follow Only Now and on SoundCloud for more music. The EP will be released through Record Label Records as a limited edition cassette tape or in digital format on Bandcamp. You can listen to Kush Arora’s stellar Wild City mix, which he stitched together back in 2013 here.
