The Story Of Light Festival

16 October 2014

Ever question the mysteries of the universe? Struggle with the fine line between science and faith? Believe art and philosophy walk hand in hand? If yes, then this is the cultural festival for you. The Story of Light Festival is a new cross-disciplinary platform bringing together scientists, artists and philosophers. The intention is to explore the convergence of these disciplines through the prism of art and design.

The festival’s extensive official website offers a wide selection of academic articles, videos and posts divided into four informal themes: ‘Light and Life’, ‘Seeing and Perceiving’, ‘Light in Technology’ and ‘Our Universe’. Be warned - you could get lost in a black hole of intriguing theory and information, so make sure you clear your schedule before visiting.

The website states the team behind the festival hope to “translate the magic of quantum physics and our universe” into a series of exhibits, workshops, installations and more. To encourage participation the festival was open (till mid-September) to proposals for installations, talks, screenings, workshops and collaborations with artists and scientists. With 115 submitted entries, we cannot wait to see the final outcome. The Story of Light Festival will explore light through an artistic, philosophical, spiritual, and scientific perspective, so there will definitely be an interesting range of exhibits sourced from the general public.

The Story of Light Festival looks truly unique. With the influx of fresh and exciting cultural festivals in India it can sometimes be hard to know where to go but, if early indicators are anything to go by, this celebration of science and art looks like it will fall under the must attend column. We're excited.

The festival is scheduled to take place in Panaji, Goa from 14-18 January 2015, during the International Year of Light. It is a not-for-profit initiative and free for all.

You can visit The Story of Light Festival website here, or follow them on Facebook for further updates.
