Covelong Point Surf & Music Festival To Take Place This Weekend

11 September 2014

September 12 – 14 will witness the second edition of the Covelong Point Surf and Music Festival along the sandy coasts of Tamil Nadu.

The event was founded by Murthy Megavan – a former fisherman who began the Covelong Point Surfing School (as a way to rehabilitate his Tsunami affected home), Arun Vasu of TT logistics and Yotam Agam of the EarthSync World Music Record Label.

The team promises to keep festival goers busy with round the clock activities which include yoga and meditation classes, volleyball and catamaran competitions, skateboard ramps and food stalls among others. A surf documentary ‘Beyond The Surface’ about Ishita Malaviya – India’s first female surfer – will also be screened, and a series of surf workshops will be conducted.

The highlight of the festival (aside from the surfing of course) is their exciting line up which will see multi-genre performances by talented acts from the industry including Klypp, Nischay Parekh and Jivraj Singh, Begum X and Delhi Sultanate, The F16’s, Kutle Khan and The Raghu Dixit Project. The entire list of performers is given in detail on their facebook event page.

Partying aside, the festival exists for a cause – its ultimate aim is to use surfing and subsequent tourism as a means to rehabilitate and develop the Covelong town and community, as well as raise awareness about the issues faced by the village.

You can learn more about the Covelong Point Surf and Music Festival on its facebook page. Entry to the festival is free and all other information, including registration fot their surf competition is available on their website. A teaser trailer for the event is embedded below:
