Blood Earth Project Remixed + Film Screening

10 March 2014

You really must be living under a rock if you haven’t heard about Word Sound Power; a project that takes the form of multimedia collaborations with South Asian artists exploring the sounds and songs of resistance. It has been a fascinating process to follow and really great to see it making waves outside of India.

Helmed by electronic music producer Chris McGuinness and dancehall artist and MC Delhi Sultanate, they have taken their mobile studio around the country with every project resulting in a music album and documentary which is captured by Kush Badhwar.

Yesterday saw the online launch of Blood Earth remixed and re-interpreted by Dr. Das from Asian Dub Foundation. Available for free download here the Dr Das treatment lends a much dubbier and bassier sound. While the tracks still retain the aggression and anger of resistance, the remixes will certainly make the music a lot more accessible and palatable to a wider audience. We’re huge fans of dub and it’s great to see a pioneer like Dr. Das keep himself current, relevant and use his following to raise awareness for some very real and serious issues.

Listen, share and also mark 13 April in your diary for a special screening of the award winning documentary ‘Blood Earth’ directed by Kush Badwar at the MAYDAY bookstore/café. The film will be followed by a Q&A with Delhi Sultanate and Minati Dash. Blood Earth documents the collaborations and explores the relationship between music, struggle, and cultural responses to violence via word and sound.

For now you can enjoy Blood Earth remixed below:
