Event Preview Delhi: When A Woman Speaks, Listen

Two very interesting events in Delhi, both colliding with International Women’s Day, and both involving ethno-punk queen Tritha.

‘When A Woman Speaks, Listen’, is a project that involved a 3 week journey through Rajasthan, Delhi and Udaipur with a camera. Women were filmed “the way they came to us: free, hearty, proud, in sari or in jeans.” This documentary captures a pivotal point in time for women in India: “They are now going through a hinge moment where tradition melts with a desire for modernity.”

You can catch a screening of the documentary preceded by a discussion and followed by a performance from Tritha (who is featured in the film) on Wednesday 5 March.

Also make sure you don’t miss Connaught Place (7/8 March) and Dilli Haat (12 March) come to life with public projections and a photo expo. As part of the Photography Festival held by the French Institute, the streets will be projected with a combination of art and speeches: women discussing issues to do with commitment, freedom, identity and limit.
