Mumbai Preview: Documentary Film Screening at Alliance Francais

28 May 2013

It's auteur's Tuesday hère in Mumbai and if your movie coffer's been running a little low these days, then Alliance Francais' special film screening tonight might help flesh it out a bit. Tonight's a documentation of muscle, both of the physical and emotional kind, in the form of a documentary called 'Ramin.'

Directed by the renowned Audrius Stonys, the narrative follows a veteran Georgian wrestler and his journey from a once unbeatable wrestler to a present version of himself with no one but a cat for companionship. The filmmaker delves deep into the wrestler's introspection ultimately getting him to admit that even during his heydays, he never gave love a real chance and so he wakes up at a later stage of his life to seek out what he truly desires. Reviews rave about it being a truly heart-warming story but there's only one way to find out. You can watch the trailer here.

The screening will be followed by a stimulating discussion with filmmaker Tangella Madhavi, best known for her moving documentation of migrant daily wage labourers in the city and their utterly helpless feeling of 'homelessness,' a sentiment that was easily identifiable for her. You can follow up the movie watching with a little groove at The Little Door, where Groove Gully will be exploring different genres of music.

Alliance Francais will screen Ramin at 6.30pm tonight at the institution in Churgate. Entry is free. You can call +91 22 22036187 for more details.
