A WORLDWIDE THING: #FEBRUARY

16 March 2015

Radio Broadcaster and DJ IAMRISHA hosts a bi-monthly show on Delhi-based online station Radio 79. It's called and showcases global underground sounds that range from soul and funk through to tropical bass. Every month she'll bring us a recap of the show's freshest sounds and styles - exclusively for Wild City.

Nick Woodmansey aka Emanative has compiled a knock out jazz and beyond album titled 'The Light Years of The Darkness' via the Steve Reid Foundation that helps support musicians. He's enlisted the help of Four Tet on the Thumb Piano covering Don Cherry and Ed Blackwell's hypnotic masterpiece 'Makondi'- see episode 49 above.

Stunning sounds from one of the leading Hang player's Manu Delago with 'Disgustingly beautiful.' The endlessly curious artist has previously worked with Bjork, The Cinematic Orchestra, Anouskha Shankar and has now released this track on the album 'Silver Kobalt' that's filled with wit and invention. What gets me is the delicacy of varied tones - childlike, cryptic with a bass-heavy undercurrent.

This is a proper rhythm love affair. Mr Mo Kolours is back with the smooth dub-influenced 'How I' on One-handed music. Influenced by the realms of traditional sega music with his Mauritian roots, Jimi Hendrix to Caribou - all noted on his self-titled debut album in 2014 described by the Guardian as 'the best album Curtis Mayfield never made with A Tribe Called Quest and Lee Perry' to his latest EP.

Also featured are new sounds from Nostalgia 77’s rendition of Sun Ra’s ‘Measures,’ woozy Midwest haze from the Mild High Club and another killer remix from japanese-based Aru-2 of Bahamadia.
