A WORLDWIDE THING: #OCTOBER

14 November 2014

Radio Broadcaster and DJ IAMRISHA hosts a bi-monthly show on Delhi-based online station Radio 79. It's called and showcases global underground sounds that range from soul and funk through to tropical bass. Every month she'll bring us a recap of the show's freshest sounds and styles - exclusively for Wild City.

Hooked on the debut album from New Delhi's Soulspace aka Vishnu PS out on Wind Horse Records. A soulful, downtempo cosmic escape comprised of beautiful, tight productions. He'll be performing at the Magnetic Fields Festival this year, which will be the ideal setting for his progressive style.

Footwork still lives strong. As a dedication to DJ Rashad, Cakedog's come out with Menace in the Phantom, 'inspired by the Battle Grounds in Chicago.' I1089063's chopped up and takes time to get into but then quickly verges on sounding like a genius of bit of production. More newness this week comes from South London's Swindle who is it killing it with his jazz-inflected style of dubstep. Labels Brownswood and Deep Medi have released his 'Walter's Call' EP and I've selected 'Summer Fruits' for it's melody, brass and sunny afternoon vibes. And adding to the mix of fresh releases, we've got true Cali funk from Fawshawn's Golden State of Mind whose flow is delivered with true precision.

Mr. Bongo, the label that brought Afro-Brazilian sounds to the world, turns 25. It’s a milestone that deserves recognition for all that that they have achieved in the space of World music. Here's founder and crate digger Dave 'Mr Bongo' Buttle on the label origins and how he cornered the Latin music genres.

My video of the month comes from Stone throw's MNDSGN who showcases Cali's finest thrift shop through his blissful, somber production, whilst meddling with the goods.
