Bandcamp Announces Support For Trans People

Bandcamp, the popular music hosting website, has allied itself alongside LGBTQIA individuals in yet another protest move against U.S President Donald Trump’s orders.

Having already shown their ally-ship with those affected by Trump’s so-called “Muslim Ban”, this new announcement comes in the wake of Trump marginalising Trans individuals by declaring they cannot serve in the U.S military.

Bandcamp will be donating 100% of their share of every sale on Friday, 4 August (from midnight to midnight Pacific Time) to the Transgender Law Center, a nonprofit organisation that works to change law, policy, and culture for the more equitable.

Their first fundraiser for the ACLU in February was a wildly successful one and Bandcamp hopes that they can replicate it this week.

In an open letter to all its users, this is what Bandcamp staff had to say:

“Bandcamp is a platform for artistic expression, and all manner of variance in experience and identity, including gender and sexuality, is welcome here. We support our LGBT+ users and staff, and we stand against any person or group that would see them further marginalized. This includes the current U.S. administration and its recent capricious declaration that transgender troops will no longer be able to serve in the military. That this announcement was motivated in part to help fund the border wall exposes it as part of the administration’s cynical, discriminatory agenda.” - Bandcamp Staff.

You can read the entire letter here and check out the albums and interviews made by Trans artists that Bandcamp have posted.

For now, you can listen to Trans artist and activist Mykki Blanco’s album ‘Mykki’ below.

You can stand with Bandcamp in support of Trans rights on 4 August.
