The Shakey Rays are a 4-piece rhythm ‘n’ blues/rock ‘n’ roll band from Chennai. The band got together with an accumulation of ideas, song sketches, sounds and rhythms from previous bands, some of which have previously performed live concerts in many cities.
Songwriting duo and founding members of the group, Dhruva Gautham and Vikram Kannan decided that they needed an outlet; a strong vehicle of expression for their growing musical interests. They gave their old schoolmate Niranjan Swaminathan (ex-Blacklisted) a buzz with a nice little drum kit at his doorstep and with a list of records to study. Iuni Yooni joined in on bass, completing the quartet. The band is at its strongest when the music is interactive and impulsive. Extended, onstage jams allow the musicians to branch out musically and vary the 4-piece format. Dhruva and Vikram often work on different arrangements for each song and explore various musical patterns. It is the overall sound of the record that is considered important, genre hardly being a relevant factor.
