The Polish Institute Celebrates Anniversary With Reggae & Dancehall

3 June 2013

The Polish Institute in India is celebrating its first birthday with India's first champion sound, Reggae Rajahs.

Bringing together India’s reggae figureheads with Polish vocal talent, Marika, and Polish DJs, Dancehall Masak-Raf, Junior Stress and Ras Tooh, the institute for culture is partying in achievement of "one year of exceptional events in India."

The gigs will headline Polish performing artist, Marika, who has played as support for the likes of international heavyweights Sean Paul, Missy Elliott, Macy Gray and Erykah Badu in intimate shows in both New Delhi and Bangalore. Both shows will also feature Polish artists; Dancehall Masak-Raf, Junior Stress (pictured) and Ras Tooh. These shows follow upon the hugely-successful celebrations of the Reggae Rajahs 4th anniversary tour (Wild City mix) earlier this year. A multi-city tour made possible by the support of the Polish Institute, which introduced Polish reggae dons DJ Dreadsquad and jazz-soul singer Kasia Malenda to enthusiastic Indian audiences.

“We want the young audiences in Delhi, Bangalore and other cities to have a glimpse into the diverse and rich contemporary music scene in Poland (...) The collaborations between the Reggae Rajahs from India and Polish artists, including Marika, are examples of projects that can, in the future, lead to recordings and concert tours, both here and in Poland; building awareness of the shared music scenes between our two countries.” Anna Tryc-Bromley, Director, Polish Institute in New Delhi
